Thanks for sharing this useful information on air conditioning repair, it could come in handy in the future if I didn’t have the money to pay for a professional company to do it. There is one company in particular that I have always used to carry out my air conditioning maintenance and repairs, and that is aircontrol.co.uk, I shall continue to use them as they are reliable and professional in everything to do.

I presume that they put this dirty filter in … just for the sake of the video..’Duct’ geometry looks suspect as the line goes from vertical to horizontal with in about one foot..mad really this might be the problem creating turbulence….

When my old gas pack wouldn’t start in heat mode last fall, I checked the blinking light diagnostic code on the unit, and the induction blower was bad (~$250 part I could DIY), and I knew that the heat exchanger was rusted and about to leak (~$700 part + labor). I decided to replace it with a Geothermal Heat Pump, and saved AT LEAST $5,000 in labor by doing it DIY! With the tax credits, I PAY only 35% for the system! See the video “ClimateMaster Geothermal Heat Pump Simple DIY Installation”

That filter looked like the air flow is not functioning properly. If they have issue with the dust collecting on half the filter, that tells me that the air is turbulent in the ducting and only flowing over one half of the area of the filter. Not good news for the air circulation or the fan motors, and your power bill. Yes, power bill you ignorant assholes, if the air flow is reduced by half, then you are forcing your machine to do more work to achieve the same result (temp).

I agree, especially on the return drop! to many “technicians” don’t know air, and don’t know ductwork. I can see that you do. I like a RA drop big enough for me to stand in :) Media filters a standard with my installs too. Keep up the good work!

  24. Will Thompson says:

my ac does not even come on. And I am trying to figure out why.

  25. DaG37boy says:

What the fuck… Hos is this REPAIR? This is clearly maintenance.

  26. therohvac says:

This was not informative at all. As a matter of fact it should be a “Don’t let this happen to you video.”.

The air flow over the filter is uneven and return air trunk is under sized.

Do you guys ever consult a true pro or do you just open up an HVAC book and misuse and misinterpret the information?

  27. HVACGUY31K10 says:

The stat was set for 60 when it switched off. You have to take the top panel off before you can take the bottom door off of that York furnace, and visa versa putting them back on. The moron in the video didnt get it on all the way. GEEEZ..just leave to the pros…we all paid good money to learn this trade.

The narrator looks out of place in the denim shirt. He sounds like the voice in every grade school video we watched back in the seventies. You should have him at Discovery or TLC channel doing voice overs.
